Super Bowl

Well, we've got ourselves an old-fashioned gunfight coming up in Miami. IMHO people are overreacting to the Saints' "lucky" win against the Vikes and to Peyton Manning's routing the Jets in the second half. Drew Brees can match Manning throw for throw; the real key is whose running game and line play can step up to championship caliber on that given Sunday. Saints have the coaching advantage: Sean Payton over the Colts' rookie head man Caldwell, whom I can see being ultra-conservative in his play calling ala Tony Dungy. Give me New Orleans with +6 or more, which is where this line is headed already- and I believe they have a more than fair chance to win the game outright, kicking off Mardi Gras in style! Your thoughts?

Statistically the Vikings had a better chance of beating the colts. But Farve was pretty banged up. I really didn't care who won the Vikes/Saints game, because both teams had potential to beat the colts! I'm definitely NOT a colts fan... not really a fan of Farve after the crap he pulled with retiring or not retiring... we all knew what he was doing. "thanks for insulting our intelegence, Farve!" whatever... But Anyway it'll be nice to see the Saints win, although Brees hasn't been in a  big game since the Rose Bowl, back when he played college ball for Purdue.

I think Vikings/Indy would've been the better game.  If it wasn't for Minnesota's literally handing the ball over to the Saints multiple times, clearly that game (at least statistically) was all Vikings; they simply beat themselves.  For the record: I dislike all the teams mentioned and could care less who wins, though I'll pick the Colts by 9.

Colts won their recent Super Bowl IN Miami, and know that field well playing the Dolphins their often. Saints better in a dome versus outside, Colts a dome team too, but field familiarity gives them an edge. Saints a little more happy to be there, versus Colts mission to be there. Nobody, including Brees is playing at a higher level than Manning now. His game calling, sight adjustments, video preparation, defensive scheme familiarity are second to none. It all, however, boils down to who can get more pressure, hits, rushes, and sacks on the opposing quarterback. The GIANTS formula versus the untouchable PATRIOTS. The Billy Joel SONG PRESSURE comes to mind. Offensive lines may be the biggest key of all. Experience edge, Field edge, Quarterback edge all favor the Colts. Saints offense is expl;osive, but they must win turnover battle to have a chance here. Special teams may be another big key, Reggie Bush has to hold on to the ball. ALL IN ALL, WHEN YOU MIX IT ALL UP, SHAKE IT, It comes out COLTS 34 SAINTS 23, COLTS will win by 11 points and COVER, Final score will be over 55 points for the game. COLTS win, but they won't BREES to a victory, they will pull it out in the fourth quarter.

In all honesty when you look at the super bowl you have to say one thing. The colts are a come from behind team and have done it all season. Had to against the pats in November and had to last weekend agains tthe jets. You honestly think that if the colts let the saints get away from them in the first half that they will come back???? well ummm good luck with your dreams in fantasy world. I'll say this right now the saints have a heavy pressure D and hit favre so many times the man was probably completely purple the next day ( I think they hit him 18 times in all) Manning doesn't handle front pressure very often and if the pocket calapses like it did on the vikings the colts passing game will dissapear I dont care how good it is. Manning is good at disecting a D but he doesn't usually get it going till the 3rd or 4th quarter. He came back against the jets and the pats but I'm sorry the saints are a completely different animal. They have delayed blitzes and fast corners that play tough and physical D. They wont allow manning to throw those quick drops and slants that he likes. The more he waits the more he'll get hit and the further the game will get away. The siants are just as high flying and even have a dominate running game, which I might add, the colts dont really have a run game worth much of anything. If AP can't run on the saints D you think addia or brown will? lol. ok once again hows dream world? I hear the weather is nice. saints will win if the colts can't keep up and they will win even if they do. saints 35 colts 21 end of story.

Please don't take offense to any of this, it's just sports talk... Nothing personal... I still like all of you guys.

And I really don't like th colts if you couldn't tell...

Sorry to all you fans of RUGBY, SOCCER, CRICKET and even BASEBALL. There is no better game on the planet than AMERICAN FOOTBALL! It combines every element, and the complexity, the strategy, of this game is second to none. It is CHESS with VIOLENCE, you need a very good head, and body, to even understand the game, let alone play it! Higher level thinking and strategy go hand in hand with the breaks in the action! WHOGIRL, you show very, very good knowledge of the game, and most of your points are quite valid and interesting, and worthy of thought and debate. We both follow the game closely, and have come to different conclusions. Both of these teams had great seasons, and both may have very well gone undefeated if not for resting players. I don't think the SAINTS will dominate the COLT offensive line like you think, they are better than the VIKINGS up front. The COLTS also will not fall behind by a lot, they will be more than ready. TURNOVERS may decide the game more than anything. I will stick with my prediction, it will be fun looking at this board after the game, and we will see who knew best! Nothing like a little SMACK to go along with FOOTBALL!

ok, ok, well I am very into sports, and I really hate the colts, so I maybe a little bias. However, I am a humble enough girl that  IF the Saints lose, I would be willing to eat my words... But we'll just have to wait and see. I've made my points and so have you so there's no need to get into it any further, so after the game... we'll see whose right... and by "whose" I mean Me...

WHO GIRL, When ............I mean if the COLTS win you will have to paint your very cute toes COLTS BLUE, and if by some MIRACLE the SAINTS come marching home a winner, you can paint your pretty little toes SAINTS gold! That to me is a BIG WIN either way, and that visual appeals to me more than any discussion or debate!

Sara, The world loves SOCCER because it is fairly inexpensive to play, and the basic concept of the game is so simple, most simple minded people can understand it. I also understand at it's highest level MANCHESTER UNITED, CELTIC, LAZIO, CHELSEA, and in the WORLD CUP it is a great game with lots of pace and strategy, it just doesn't still get nearly as intricate, detailed or complex as AMERICAN FOOTBALL. You can study our game for decades and still not understand 20% of it! As for RUGBY versus AMERICAN FOOTBALL, PLEASE!!! I played both, AMERICAN FOOTBALL IS WAY, WAY MORE COMPLEX THEN RUGBY. The other misconception is that RUGBY players are tougher because they play with less padding. RUGBY is more like GRAPPLING and WRESTLING and you get bruised! AMERICAN FOOTBALL, HITS MUCH, MUCH HARDER, the COLLISIONS are much more violent. Having been hit with an AMERICAN FOOTBALL HELMET, and BIG, BIG SHOULDER PADS, in your knees, in your ribs, in your helmet, hurts so much more, you have no idea! RUGBY talks tough, AMERICAN FOOTBALL is tough. The other proof is look at the vast majority of ex-players, and see who is more damaged physically from the two sports, it isn't close. The idea that AMERICAN FOOTBALL is more GAY, is crazy, plus there is much more GAY grabbing and touching in your RUGBY game. The x's and o's, and strategy of AMERICAN FOOTBALL is so complex, that the stoppages in play are required because there is actually DEEP THINKING going on, it is not all about grabbing and running! AMERICAN FOOTBALL, is much much more intellectual, and much more punnishing then you could ever imagine!

I would wager my toes. If colts win I'll paint them blue I'll even put a horseshoe on them, But if they lose I'll do the same, But underneath the Horseshoe I'll get "sucks" Because I could really care less about the Saints. I just really dislike the colts...

Really I couldn't say much for either sport being better than the other, because I like and watch both Rugby and American Football, also the numbers of Heart failures spike way up during football(soccer) games that are really important, and I don't know about you but I've never been to an American Football game where a guy dies standing right next to me...

And as far as "My Team" I am not a fence-jumper, and I have held the love for my team since I was a little girl, and I will always stand by and root for my team win or lose, I am a die hard Bears fan... Grant it I realize as of here late, my team has done more losing than winning, but as to be expected victory comes and goes. I love the Bears, Always have always will, Rain or Shine, Win or Lose.

CELTIC plays in the SCOTTISH league, and the team originated in Glasgow in 1888. It was founded by IRISH ( IRELAND ) IMMIGRANTS, IRISH Religious leaders in the new large community now desperately trying to fit in and get along. The sole purpose of the teams founding was to bridge the vast gap between IRELAND and SCOTLAND and to get these now new close neighbors to better get along. It was a brilliant and effective plan. The poverty of the area was immense, tensions were high, but this new team did bring unity and fellowship. CELTIC has IRISH roots, the teams colors of the GREEN and WHITE was a tribute to IRELAND, the IRISH community, IRISH heritage. I stated they were from IRELAND for those reasons, though technically you are correct, the team is from Glasgow. It was not for the reason of lack of knowledge as you thought, thinking us AMERICANS know nothing about YOUR sports!!!

Oh My, Well The only reason I made that comment is because my boyfriend is Irish, and I'd just heard him use Celtic in reference to other things... I was trying to be funny... I will admit I don't really know much about the teams, but I'll watch a few games here and there. ...Sorry Sara... ...Sorry Royals...

Also Royals, Do you mean Football (soccer) is your favorite sport or American Football is your favorite sport?

eff Boston... They don't even pronounce their own name right...

Sara, I am a fan of almost all sports, Not just American sports, Grant it I don't follow all sports like I do American Football, But I really enjoy Rugby, I don't think t's anything above or below American Football, and I've watched and even played a little football (soccer/futbol) here and there with some friends, and I know that the amount of skill and stamina it takes to play it is incredible. Now I've never seen rugby anywhere other than the television, but I'd assume it's just as difficult. Different aspects of all of these sports makes playing them challenging, but fun to watch.  Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Ireland's team the only team in professional Rugby history to remain unbeaten in a year? I think so... Not sure though, I mean I know this past year they were unbeaten, But I don't really know much of anything else to it. Thanks...

Don't let Royals talk to you the way he does... You should teach him a lesson... Kicking him around and such.

HI WHOGIRL and SARA, AMERICAN FOOTBALL is my favorite game. Now if I could get the two of you to kick me around like a SOCCER BALL or FOOTBALL, I would have died and gone straight to HEAVEN! INVICTUS, the movie with MATT DAMON and MORGAN FREEMAN is a terrific movie about RUGBY and SOUTH AFRICA, and shows the true power of sports in bringing people together. THE BLIND SIDE is a good movie with SANDRA BULLOCK and gives you some insight on AMERICAN FOOTBALL. Other great AMERICAN FOOTBALL movies are BRIAN'S SONG, which WHOGIRL should LOVE! THE LONGEST YARD, NORTH DALLAS FORTY, WE ARE MARSHALL, to name a few.

Before I give my thoughts on the upcoming Super Bowl......fuck both these teams. GO STEELERS 2010!!!!

Ahem.  Now, after watching the Saints all season long as the new NFC darlings, there playbook is so wide open it's not even funny.  They do have a talented squad, don't get me wrong, but against the Colts, it will be an uphill battle.  First of the Colts have the "been here, done that swagger going for them", and that is very important.  The Colts defense is more than good enough to create those turnovers against the Brees' high flying offense.

Bottom line for the Colts to win, play action, play action, play action, and use your two most deadliest weapons in Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark.  Mistakes are affordable for the Colts.

Bottom line for the Saints, keep the Colts offense on the bench.  Oh and pray extra hard this week.

My prediction Colts win by 13.  However, in reality I'm just looking forward to gaining some weight via brats, cola, and chips.

CONGRATULATIONS SAINTS!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VERY SMART WHOGIRL. WHO DAT, and MISTRESS ANDREA! Your team played very well in all phases of the game, they were the better team tonight. CONGRATULATIONS CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, YOU DESERVE IT! Who would have thunk PEYTON MANNING would make the critical error of game, would not have figured that! On-side kick at beginning of second half was a genius call, that shifted momentum there. Football is a game of momentum. I lost money, I really, really thought COLTS would cover the spread here, but at least I have WHOGIRL in black and gold toenail polish to look foward too, so it is all good!!!

The better team deffinatly won... I can explain all the colts faults of the game in the prediction I made... Which included the 14 point lead result... but as for the colt's "hick" QB, Brees went to Purdue, and I live around that area, So I know first hand... He is also a "hick" although I wont deny the Colts QB as a hick... I've never met the man... Go Saints!

Maybe the Colts Fans just need time to grieve over their loss...

Drew Brees may or may not be the better QB, but he's at least equally as good, I'd say the better All-Around team won...  You need more than a QB to win games...

Well, that was a spirited discussion, glad to have kicked it off, so to speak. I had the game pegged pretty accurately, especially about the coaching mismatch- the Colts are still shaking their heads over that onside kick. Also, having the aging Colts' field-goal kicker attempt one way out of his range was horrible, costing them field position. And yes, Brees was practically flawless. The sports books here in Nevada generally needed the Saints and the under, so most of them did just fine (minus the pittance I took away from them, heh heh).

Now be alert- pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training is only a couple of weeks away!
