Anyone else hear about Salinger's death this week? I read the Catcher in the Rye, and I thought it was a great book, any other fans of his?

I heard about it yesterday, Oh my... But I'm sure his quality of life wasn't amazing... Being as reclusive as he was... I did like Catcher in the Rye, but (and this may sound weird) I liked it for a strange reason, The main Character was a TOTAL creeper... I liked it oddly enough, I was intrigued by his awkwardness and his anti-social behavior... It made me want to know more. I loved reading Catcher in the Rye.
Have you read any Kurt Vonnegut? Speaking of dead Authors... Slaughter House 5 is a really good Vonnegut, just to let you know...

I borrowed the book Slaughter House 5 after I had watched the movie, but unfortunately I never got around to actually reading it. :P The whole concept of detaching yourself from an emotional roller coaster of a life was interesting, especially when he ends up in Tralfamadore. With Salinger the only book I had read of his was Catcher in the Rye, which I thoroughly enjoyed and I could identify with the youthful angst the character exhibited.
One of my favorite dead non-fluffy real authors is Jack London though. He's not only good for writing about dogs and the wild. He's actually written some other great books like the Sea Wolf which questions moral relativity.

Well I had assumed the only J.D. Salinger book you've ever read was Catcher in the Rye, because it was the only book he'd ever finished... lol. I actually didn't even know there was a slaughter house 5 movie, I'll have to check it out, The books arealways better though. I've read a few Jack London's but not Sea Wolf, I'll Check that out too! Thanks!

I liked the Catcher in the Rye very much, it was a primary source for me how to imagine US American life after 1945. His sarcasm has won many readers worldwide. Anyway he finished other books as well, there are 3 of them. He was an erratic man who tried through a lot of religious beliefs. At the end he remained alone... in all sense of the word.
