Boston Lead Singers Death Ruled a Suicide

  Votes: 0
The "nicest man in rock and roll" was also apparently a troubled man.

New Hampshire police and the family of late Boston frontman Brad Delp said Wednesday that his sudden death at age 55 last Friday was a suicide.

"He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers," Delp's family said in a statement issued by the Atkinson Police Department.

"He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace."

Delp's fiancée, Pamela Sullivan, discovered the "More Than a Feeling" rocker dead at their Atkinson home Friday morning. Sullivan, who was planning to swap vows with Delp this summer, had been out the previous night with friends and returned home after failing to reach him on the phone several times.

Toxicology tests performed by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp died from carbon monoxide poisoning after shutting himself inside a bathroom with two charcoal grills, Lieutenant William Baldwin said. The musician, a longtime vegetarian who had been known for his clean living, had left notes for his family and Sullivan taped to a door.

Fans paid their respects to Delp over the weekend, leaving flowers outside his home and posting thousands of comments on news and music blogs. His family, who said that they are planning a private funeral and will announce a public memorial at a later date, is asking that any donations be made to the American Heart Association in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Boston cofounder Tom Scholz said in a statement on the band's Website that plans for a summer tour have been canceled.

"My heart goes out to his wonderful fiancée Pamela, his two children, other family members, his close friends and band mates, and to the millions of people whose lives were made a little brighter by the sound of his voice," Scholz said. "He will be dearly missed."

Yeah, apparently toxicology takes a while to find. It is sad when someone commits suicide.

I've been suicidal, and I detest when experts and non experts alike state that "oh what a weak person to do such a thing." or other statements of such.

I say, walk a mile in their shoes. Don't see, feel what they are going through. For me it was that I just wanted to rest. Luckily I was able to get the help I needed.

My heart goes out to the family.

Peace.

its very sad when a person takes there own life, the guy must have been so troubled. I too have never understood why 'so-called' experts claim the person to be weak, for some people things get too much, i'm pleased crapenstein found the help. I've hit rock bottom before, i've never been suicidal but it's brushed my thoughts in the past, i'd be far too scared to take my own life. Thoughts go out to his family and friends, must be a nightmare for them.
