Any true metal fans here?

  Votes: 0
As you can probably tell by my name and avatar, I am a fan of true, old-school style heavy metal. I have been for about six years. My favorite genres are traditional/NWOBHM, power, and thrash, but I also really enjoy black metal, doom, and melodic death metal. Some of my favorite bands are Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, DIO, Black Sabbath, Manowar, Angel Witch, Omen, Saxon, Yngwie Malmsteen, Helstar, Accept, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Iced Earth, Neil Turbin-era Anthrax, Overkill, Exodus, Kreator, Tankard, Metal Church, Artillery, old In Flames, Amon Amarth, Bal-Sagoth, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Bathory, Necromantia, Crimson Moonlight, and several others.
I also enjoy AOR/melodic rock/glam metal bands such as post-DIO-era Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner, Alcatrazz, Talisman, Boston, Foreigner, Deep Purple, KISS, WASP, Lizzy Borden, Dokken, The Scorpions, SHY, Journey, Tyketto, .38 Special, Night Ranger, and Bonrud, just to name a few.
Any other folks out there dig this music as much as I do?

Sounds like we have similar tastes in music. Many of my favorite bands were in that list.

I like some metal, like Tool, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rush, Dream Theater, and Metallica (old material mostly.)

I fall more to the lighter side of Metal, or Glam Metal, with some heavy and dark as well. Poison, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Stryper, White Lion, Dio, Whitesnake, David Lee Roth (early David with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan), Faster Pussycat, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, White/Rob Zombe, Tool, KISS, Deep Purple, Guns and Roses ...just off the top of my head.

I feel I must correct you. While I too love Boston, I wouldn't consider them "metal." More like Arena Rock or Stadium Rock. With that being said, I would throw in Queen, .38 Special, Ted Nugent and The Stones.

Alternately, another big genre I find myself listening too alot over the last few years is 70's music, primarily of the "Singers and Songwriters", and rock/blues. Cat Stevens, Jim Croche, CCR, etc.

I am a metal/hard rock. I went to California with a friend in 86 a year after high school to try hitting it big. Of course didn't make it. My band played small clubs while I also worked as a roadie and guitar tech for some bigger just not hugely famous bands. I did get to see a lot of the big groups play in smaller venues. I got to see groups play at the famous Gazzarri's, the Roxy and Troubadour. I wasn't able to play the places myself though which sucked. It was complete glam at the time, which I didn't exactly like but it was still a wild time.

While nobody would even know my band the time was absolutely crazy. It seems whenever I remember things about it I just remember the outrageously fun times not any of the struggling to survive, I used to walk in a store, grab a pop tart and eat it walking down the aisle on my way out of the store. I came back to Chicago in 91 having not went anywhere. I hated the new alternative music. That was when I first saw the Smashing Pumpkins. I couldn't stand them. Now that I have grown a little older I can appreciate their music and like it but still love the 80s metal. Judas Priest, Van Halen, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Metallica and Guns N Roses. I know some of these are arguably not metal rather arena rock or hard rock but you get the idea.

Long live the 80's; the greatest decade of over indulgence and partying ever. The only difference between the 60's and the 80's is the drugs were better in the 80's. Bottom line!

when i get tired of my CDs,
I pop over to youtube to the classic MTV channel.
I was too young at the time, but I love listening to it now.
there seems to be some hard rock, I guess thats metal?
Def lepard "love bites" live is really good. They have a lot of live concerts
that were broadcast in the 80s by lots of bands. Oh, and I just watched The Fixx
in concert. I don't think thats really metal though...

LOVE --- '70s heavy metal, nwobhm, classic '80s metal, epic/doom, psych/doom, oldschool death metal, oldschool black metal, a bit of thrash, and most punk/metal hybrids before the horrible "metalcore" era (love punk too)

CAN'T STAND --- nü-"metal", metalcore, gothic metal, most "power metal" (the kind thats more deserving of the term "flower metal"), most prog metal, ... actually most of the stuff that seems to be popular these days because it all sounds so squeaky clean and digital-sounding and polished, sucks the spirit right out of the music. and I say this out of sincere love for the genre.

Judas Priest are beyond godhood.

Priest, most definitely for me. There is simply no other voice like Halford's in all of rock. And, after you've seen them live (in their prime) everyone else pales in comparison.

Hell yea Iron Maiden!

I remember in one of the collegefoot.com preview videos, you could hear "Hallowed Be Thy Name" in the background.
